Today I thought I would do something a little different and talk about being quiet. Us quiet people get a bad rap, but is that fair? Below I list reasons why being quiet is great and not so great. Can you relate to any of these?
The Pros:
Quiet People Are The Best Listeners!
Ever just feel the need to vent or get something off your chest without someone interrupting you? Well then your quiet friend is the perfect person. Quiet people are great at listening. And not only are they great at listening, they give excellent advice and may be able to see things from a different point of view that you would have never thought of by yourself. Because, quiet people don’t talk much, they are very observant also usually making them very empathetic.
No Need For Awkward Small Talk
So what about this weather we’re having? Ever just want to hang out with someone, but don’t have much to say? Well great! Because your quiet friend probably hates small talk and won’t hate just hanging out in silence while watch TV or a movie.
Less Drama
Because we tend to talk less, quiet people are less likely to fight or spread gossip. Quiet people choose their words more carefully, meaning that they may be less likely to say things they regret.
Now For The Cons:
Not Being Heard
Being quiet also means you sometimes for get how to use your outside voice sometimes. You may speak more quietly and people can have a hard time hearing you. The worse is when you are really trying to say something in a group conversation, and no hears or acknowledges you.
People Thing You’re A Bitch
Many people, especially extroverted people, may take your lack of conversation as a sign that your mean or rude. Sometimes, people may feel like you come off a little cold. But, usually quiet people are very happy and smile a lot, which can fix this problem. I tend to laugh (A LOT), so I hope that usually helps new people I meet know that I’m not rude, just quiet.
Forgetting You’re there
Not talking a lot usually means that the focus is not one yourself. For quiet people this is usually intentional and a good thing. However, for your friends, family, and significant other it can mean being scared half to death when you do pipe up. I can’t tell you how many times, I have scared someone in a car by saying something and they have totally forgotten I was even there.
This was meant to be something fun and different. I hope you enjoyed it. Let me know what you think of being quiet and any issues or pros you’ve noticed.

I really enjoyed this post. 🙂 And, I totally agree with you too! Quite a few of my friends are introverted and tend to be quiet but they couldn’t be anymore awesome than they are now! 😀
Thanks!!! 🙂
Very on point. The “bitch” one rang too close to home!
